Europe's largest budget airline, Ryanair, is planning to shift its focus away from the UK following Brexit.
The company released a trading statement this morning describing their disappointment at the UK’s decision to leave the European Union.
In the statement, it announced it will be cutting the number of flights on many of its Stansted routes as part of its post-Brexit strategy.
It said: “We will pivot our growth away from UK airports and focus more on growing at our EU airports over the next two years.
“This winter we will cut capacity and frequency on many London Stansted routes (although no routes will close) where we are already significantly ahead of our multiyear traffic growth targets.”
Senior figures from the Irish airline had actively campaigned for Remain ahead of the referendum, stating that they expected Brexit would lead to a period of economic uncertainty in the UK.
It added that if the UK is unable to negotiate access to the open skies EU agreement then it could have implications on their domestic routes.
Fares are also expected to fall by at least six per cent following terrorist events around the world and the weakening of the pound following the EU referendum.
Ryanair offers budget flights from Gatwick and London Stansted to destinations such as Seville and Rome.
The airline is currently facing scrutiny over hidden fees which can allegedly see passengers charged up to £160 to change a name on a ticket.
