The owners of a wind turbine factory where workers have been staging a sit-in in a bid to save it from closure are to take legal action as part of moves to repossess the site.
Around 25 workers are occupying the Vestas Wind Systems plant on the Isle of Wight as part of a campaign to prevent the plant closing on Friday with the loss of hundreds of jobs.
Letters were delivered to the workers telling them they were being dismissed with immediate effect and that they were not entitled to any compensation because of their action.
The letters were delivered along with food but the workers said it will not affect their campaign.
The Danish company which owns the factory is due to take legal action at a county court on the island.
A campaign has been launched by the Rail Maritime and Transport union (RMT) as well as environmental and climate change activists to save the factory.
One of the workers said: "We have been half expecting this to happen but there is no way it will stop our campaign and we will be continuing with the occupation. We were given a piece of pizza, an apple and a can of drink but then noticed there were letters there as well telling us we were being dismissed."
The letters say that the workers have been involved in industrial action against the company adding that the occupation had resulted in a "fundamental breach" of trust.
A protest was held outside the Department of Energy and Climate Change in London on Tuesday night as part of the campaign to save the jobs.
Union officials have called on the Government to nationalise the factory especially in view of recent announcements from ministers of wanting to create hundreds of thousands 'green' jobs.
