Samantha Cameron is joining Save the Children as an ambassador
12 April 2012

Samantha Cameron is to join the charity Save the Children as an ambassador to support its campaign No Child Born to Die, it was announced.

To mark her new role, the Prime Minister's wife will meet staff, fundraisers and volunteers to hear about Save the Children's work around the world.

The campaign was launched in January to try to save the eight million children under five who die each year from treatable illnesses such as pneumonia and diarrhoea.

Mrs Cameron said: "I have long admired the work of Save the Children and am excited to be part of their ambitious new campaign, No Child Born to Die.

"Nothing is more important to any parent than the wellbeing of their children so I am thrilled to join Save the Children and help make a difference to those around the world that suffer from poverty, ill health and hunger."

Save the Children chief executive Justin Forsyth said: "Save the Children's new campaign, No Child Born to Die, aims to mobilise the public to get involved and help stop needless child deaths.

"Who better to lead and inspire this campaign than Samantha Cameron, a committed mother who can engage with families around the UK to help overcome the scandal of mass child mortality?"
