Seven in hospital as caravan crashes into pedestrians

Seven people were taken to hospital today after a caravan hit a group of pedestrians in Devon.

Officers were called to Beer at 11.10am to reports of the “serious collision”.

One pedestrian who suffered serious injuries has been taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth by air ambulance.

Six other casualties, including the driver of the caravan, were taken to the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital in Exeter for treatment.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said four pedestrians were teenagers, three females and one male.

He added: “Police have been called to a serious collision in Fore Street, Beer.

“Officers were called to the scene, near the Anchor Inn, at 11.10am this morning after reports a campervan or caravan has collided with a group of pedestrians.

“At this early stage their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

“Fore Street is closed at Long Lane and what is described as the top end of Beer.”
