Shafilea parents challenge ruling

The parents of a murdered teenager who feared an arranged marriage are seeking a judicial review to overturn a coroner's verdict that she was unlawfully killed.

An inquest into the death of Shafilea Ahmed heard she suffered a "vile murder" after her body was found on a river bank five months after she disappeared from her Cheshire home.

Her parents, Iftikhar and Farzana Ahmed, were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping their 17-year-old daughter but were released without charge.

Ian Smith, coroner for East and South Cumbria, recorded a verdict of unlawful killing following an inquest held in Kendal in January.
