Six held over £2m cash depot raid

12 April 2012

Police hunting a gang who stole almost £2 million from a bank processing centre have arrested six men.

Officers from Staffordshire Police swooped on properties in the Wood End area of Coventry, West Midlands, between 4.30am and 5.30am.

The six were arrested in connection with the raid on the NatWest cash depot in Tamworth, Staffordshire, on October 18 in which a skip lorry was used to smash through a wall.

Five of the men, who are all from Coventry and aged between 25 and 31, were arrested early on Tuesday on suspicion of conspiracy to rob, a spokesman for Staffordshire Police said.

They were taken to Burton police station where they will be questioned later on Tuesday, he added.

Later, a sixth man, aged 21, was arrested, a spokesman for Staffordshire Police said.

He was from the Coventry area and has been taken to Burton Police Station for interview on suspicion of conspiracy to rob.

A £50,000 reward was put up by police following the robbery, which happened at 10pm at the compound on the town's Amington industrial estate.

The skip lorry, occupied by masked men in high-visibility jackets, was driven through a security fence before hitting the wall of the building.
