Sixth man charged over £40m robbery

12 April 2012

A sixth man has been charged with involvement in a £40 million jewellery robbery.

Benjamine McFarlane, 21, of Paveley Street, Westminster, will appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court, south west London, on Thursday accused of conspiracy to commit robbery.

He and five other men are charged with staging Britain's biggest jewellery robbery at Graff jewellers in Mayfair, central London, on August 6.

On Tuesday Courtney Lawrence, 30, of Ladbroke Grove, in central London, and Gregory Jones, 29, of Elgin Avenue, Harrow, north west London, Jamal Mogg, 42, of Westby Road, Bournemouth, Solomun Beyene, 24, of Lilestone Street, in Westminster, central London, and Craig Calderwood, 26, of no fixed abode, appeared at Kingston Crown Court.

They are all accused of conspiracy to commit robbery. Beyene and Calderwood also face one firearms charge each.

It is alleged that the gang forced a female member of staff to fill a bag with 43 pieces of jewellery, including earrings, necklaces and watches.

They then used a series of getaway cars and a motorcycle to escape across the capital, firing two shots in the process, it is claimed.

The five men were remanded in custody and will next appear at the same court on October 23.
