A litter of puppies has nearly trebled the British population of the rare Stabyhoun breed, earning their owner almost £10,000.

Before five-year-old Rikje gave birth to her 10 puppies there were only six of the breed in Britain and Janice Vittachi, right, from Teddington, had to take her to the Netherlands to get her pregnant.

The puppies have all been sold for £950 each and will be handed over to their owners in November.
