Ten men have been found inside a lorry container on the M25 in Essex.

All of those found, who are suspected to be migrants, were arrested on suspicion of immigration offences on Thursday evening.

One was taken to hospital for treatment.

The driver was also arrested.

The vehicle was found near the town of Waltham Abbey at around 6pm, Essex Police said.

No further details regarding ages or nationalities of the men were immediately released.

Irish police found 16 people in a sealed trailer on board a ferry on Thursday afternoon in a separate incident.

The passenger service arrived in Rosslare in Co Wexford from Cherbourg in France.

It comes after 39 migrants were found dead in a lorry in Grays, Essex, last month.

An Essex Police spokeswoman said of the discovery on Thursday near Waltham Abbey: "Police were called to reports of people inside a lorry container at around 6pm.

"Officers attended and found 10 men in the rear of the container.

"They have been arrested on suspicion of immigration offences. One was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

"The driver has been arrested. Inquiries continue."
