Tesco has urgently warned customers about a potentially tainted cheese product.

As a precaution, the large supermarket chain removed one of its grated cheese products from refrigerators because they may have been contaminated by tiny fragments of plastic.

The supermarket said: “We’re recalling one date code of TescoCreamfields grated cheddar 500g. This is because it may contain small pieces of clear, soft plastic which could make the product unsafe to eat.”

Which product is impacted?

The product affected is 500g Creamfields grated cheddar, with a best-before date of 23/03/23.

Tesco advised customers to "return any affected product to store where a full refund would be offered" rather than eating the cheese.

They added no receipt would be required.

Which other products have been recalled?

Tesco recently recalled further products, including 55g pots of Tesco Free From Golden Syrup Porridge with a best-before date of 01 September 2023, due to the possibility that some packets “may contain milk”.

Customers who bought the item but have “an allergy or sensitivity to milk or milk products” are advised not to consume it and to return it to their nearest Tesco for a full refund.

Earlier this month, Wicked Kitchen’s Spinach & Wild Garlic 250g Packs, with a use-by Date of January 12, were also recalled, due to fears some packs could contain small metal pieces.

Other well-known UK supermarket brands have been facing similar issues.

Following an allergy notice, Marks and Spencer recently issued a recall for its Belgian chocolate brand, which was discovered to contain milk despite not being declared on the package.

In addition, Bramwells Tartare Sauce had to be recalled by Aldi because its labels had been misapplied to Bramwells Horseradish Sauce, putting the health of those who are sensitive to sulphur dioxide or sulphites at risk.

If you have any concerns about the Creamfields cheese, or the free-from porridge, call Tesco Customer Services on 0800 505 555 for further information.
