The going gets better for Brooks

Short head: Charlie Brooks enjoys a Guinness at Cheltenham Festival today
Rob Parsons14 March 2012

A day after a dawn raid by police delayed his trip to the Cheltenham Festival, Charlie Brooks wasted little time today in tracking down a pint of Guinness at the racecourse.

The former racehorse trainer, 49, enjoyed a pint soon after arriving, though his wife, former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks, was nowhere to be seen just over 24 hours after their arrest on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

The couple, both friends of David Cameron, were among six people detained by detectives from Operation Weeting, the inquiry into illegal hacking of voicemail messages. Mrs Brooks, 43, has been on bail since last summer when she was arrested on suspicion of phone-hacking and corruption.

Much of the focus on the second day of the event, Ladies’ Day, was on fashion, with the Duchess of Cornwall wearing a spotted cream, green and brown dress by Anna Valentine and a blue coat by Roy Allen.

The racing syndicate made up of members of Prince Harry’s favourite nightclub, Boujis, sees its five-year-old Crunched race tomorrow.
