Three charged over birthday murder

12 April 2012

Detectives investigating the stabbing of a man just hours after his 21st birthday have charged three men with his murder.

David Haynes, who turned 21 on Saturday, was stabbed outside a kebab shop in Silver Street, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, in the early hours of Sunday and died in the afternoon as he underwent emergency surgery in hospital.

He had earlier been involved in a dispute outside the Bar Life nightclub, Northamptonshire Police said.

Three men - two from Wellingborough aged 26 and 24, and a 22-year-old from Northampton - have been charged with murder and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.

A police spokeswoman said: "The three men detained in custody in connection with the stabbing incident at Wellingborough early on Sunday morning have now been charged.

"All three men have been charged with conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm to David Haynes and all three have been charged with jointly murdering David Haynes.

"They will appear before Kettering magistrates' court (on) Tuesday."

A post-mortem examination revealed that Mr Haynes died from a single stab wound to the abdomen.

Parts of Wellingborough town centre were cordoned off by police forensic teams on Sunday when search officers recovered a knife.
