Two brothers who sadistically tortured two young boys are to be sentenced.
The pair will learn their fate as a summary of a serious case review into their interaction with a range of agencies during their troubled lives is also expected to be published.
A judge has spent two days listening to harrowing accounts of how the youngsters - then aged 10 and 11 - lured their nine-year-old and 11-year-old victims to a secluded spot and subjected them to 90 minutes of violence and sexual humiliation.
Sheffield Crown Court has heard how the victims - who are uncle and nephew - were strangled, hit with bricks, made to eat nettles, stripped and forced to sexually abuse each other in April last year.
The elder boy was seriously injured when pieces of a ceramic sink were dropped on his head during the ordeal at Edlington, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
Yesterday, the court heard that one of the brothers told police he attacked his victims because he was bored.
Lawyers for the two defendants have been describing their violent and chaotic upbringing to the judge.
Peter Kelson QC, for the elder brother, told of their "toxic home life" with their violent father, mother and five brothers.
Mr Kelson said his young client watched ultra-violent films like the Saw movies, had access to pornographic DVDs, drank cider, had 10 cigarettes a day and smoked cannabis grown on his father's allotment from the age of nine.
Today, Charles Garside QC will outline the history of the younger boy, who has already been described by a psychiatrist as a "very high risk" to the community and in danger of becoming a "seriously disturbed psychopathic offender".
