Two bodies found after flat blaze

12 April 2012

The bodies of an adult and a child have been found in a flat after reports of a fire, police said.

Officers are keeping an open mind about the cause of the blaze, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

The two bodies have yet to be identified and police have no confirmation yet as to their gender or cause of death, he added.

They were discovered after a member of the public reported a fire at the second floor flat in Earlsfield, south west London around 7.30pm on Friday.

A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to the blaze.

He said: "The bodies of an adult and child were found in the flat's bedroom.

"The fire damaged half of the four roomed flat on the second floor of a three storey block.

"The brigade was called at 1924 and the fire was under control by 2026.

"Crews from Wandsworth, Tooting, Battersea and Wimbledon fire stations attended the incident.

"The cause of the blaze is being investigated by fire officers and the police."
