Detectives launched a murder inquiry when an 89-year-old died after she was robbed in the street on Friday.

A man and a woman were arrested after the pensioner was mugged in Gomersal, West Yorkshire, and then died in Bradford Royal Infirmary from her injuries.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "At 1.54pm police were called to reports that an 89-year-old woman had been robbed on Quarry Road near to the junction of Oxford Road.

"She was reportedly attacked by a man who made off with her bag and left her with serious head injuries.

"She was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary but later died of her injuries."

The force said a man aged 26 and a 25-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder and remained in custody.
