Two men are dead after a swimming accident in Snowdonia, it has been confirmed.

The pair, aged 33 and 21, were among four people who got into difficulties while swimming near a waterfall in the Llanberis area, North Wales Police said.

The other two men, 27 and 25, were taken to hospital and treated before being released, Supt Alex Goss said.

"North Wales Police have been dealing with an incident near a waterfall in Llanberis," he added. "The incident took place near the Snowdon Mountain Railway and involved four men who had been swimming in the area and had got into difficulty."

As two of the swimmers were taken to hospital, the others were at first unaccounted for.

The police water rescue unit, as well as the local fire brigade, ambulance service and mountain rescue team, got a search under way at about 8.30am.

But tragically as the morning progressed both were both found - the older man first - and confirmed dead by Supt Goss.
