A man and woman have died after police were called to a hotel in Wales and fired a Taser stun gun at a suspect.

Police were called to the Sirhowy Arms Hotel in Argoed, Blackwood in Caerphilly county shortly before 1.30am after a report that a man was attacking a woman.

When officers got to the premises, the woman was injured and later died.

Gwent Police said a Taser was discharged and the man was arrested. He then died despite efforts to save him.

The matter has been referred to the watchdog, the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
