UK records 1,322 daily Covid deaths with 19,202 new cases reported

The Government said a further 1,322 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the UK total to 109,335.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 126,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Wednesday, there had been a further 19,202 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 3,871,825.

Government data up to February 2 shows of the 10,520,433 jabs given in the UK so far, 10,021,471 were first doses – a rise of 374,756 on the previous day’s figures.

Ten million people have now received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said.

He tweeted: “This is a hugely significant milestone in our national effort against this virus.

“Every jab makes us all a bit safer – I want to thank everyone playing their part.”
