UK weather forecast: Britain braced for snow and heavy rain after Easter Bank Holiday

Martin Coulter31 March 2018

British commuters are facing the risk of heavy snow after the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Londoners can expect heavy rain on Easter Monday, while much of Wales, the Midlands, North West England and Scotland braces for snow as temperatures drop.

Several weather warnings have been issued over the coming days, alerting Brits across large swathes of the UK to severe weather conditions.

Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst told the Standard Londoners can expect a “dry and bright” Easter Sunday, though rain will hit the capital on Monday.

“A band of rain will move in overnight with a wet start for some,” he said. “It will clear by mid-morning but there will be heavy showers later with a risk of thunder.

"Heavy rain turns to snow and continues to move north on Easter Monday, with showers following.

A yellow weather warning for snow is in place for much of the North of England and Scotland on Monday, with warnings for rain around the country throughout the week.

Small rural communities may be cut off, cars stranded and power cuts possible as the weather strikes.

Heavy rain is likely to hit the south west and Wales on Sunday, the Met Office said.

While no weather warnings have been issued for the capital, Mr Dewhurst said Easter Monday “looks like it will be quite wet”.

"It will be less cold on Tuesday and into Wednesday, though staying unsettled with further rain or showers."
