Britain’s weather woes are set to continue with wet and windy conditions expected to last all week.
Widespread thundery showers and some more intense periods of rain will be seen across the UK on Thursday right through to Sunday.
Temperatures will struggle to rise higher than the mid teens, with strong gales of up to 40mph set to sweep in from the south coast.
Met Office meteorologist Luke Miall said the worst of the conditions will be felt on Thursday but warned there was more rain on the way.
He said: “Today there will be thundery showers, the heaviest across southern counties of England, with showers merging together for longer periods of rain.
“It will be windy on the south coast as well so it will feel quite cold, with gusts of up to 40mph and top temperatures of about 14 or 15C.”
Mr Miall added: “Showers will continue into Friday but the winds will calm so it will feel a bit more pleasant.”
The wet weather comes on what was set to be the driest April on record since 1938, tempting Britons to spend time outdoors amid the coronavirus lockdown.
Temperatures soared to highs of 25C last week.
The northeast will see the worst of the wet weather on Saturday, with conditions expected to improve in the southwest.
Temperatures are set to plunge on Saturday night, with the chance of some frost forming on roads in parts of Scotland.
And on Sunday there will be outbreaks of rain across the southwest, bringing with it misty, grey conditions, Mr Miall said.
“Into Monday we will continue to see some wet weather but things will begin to improve,” he added.
“Initially it will be quite grey but brightening up with some sunshine later in the day, with top temperatures of about 16-17C in southwest.”
