UK weather forecast: Snow could be on the way as temperatures drop to -3C

Snow could descend on parts of the UK next week as temperatures look set to plummet as low as -3C overnight,

Signs indicate cold weather will mark the start of November too with further potential for snowfall.

“Rural spots could get as low as -2C or -3C tonight,” said Met Office forecaster Alex Burkill.

“The weekend just gone was exceptionally mild and now things will turn a bit fresher.”

He said that the real drop will start at the end of next week though, with high pressure in the west looking set to bring in colder air from the north across the UK. With that, snow is a possibility, the weather expert stated.

He added: “Temperatures will be a bit below average and that does bring the chance of snow.

“It’s not out of the question to get that type of weather.

“For next week, I wouldn’t expect to see it anywhere other than the north east.

“Through November, there’s a greater deal of uncertainty, but it [snow] would most likely be in the north."

Further forward though he said the indications were that November will be cooler than usual with temperatures below average, though it is hard to predict that far ahead.

With that, snow is not unlikely, and could hit some areas. It may not just be showers either, as Mr Burkill said some places could see “spells” of snow.

Overnight on Thursday on Friday, many areas will see frost, with temperatures likely to hit sub-zero.

Rain is unlikely in most areas in coming days, there could be some in the south east, though where it does rain it is expected to be patchy.

High pressure into next week is set to provide a more "settled outlook" for most places.

London is likely to stay mild, and some areas could even have temperatures in the double figures due to the cloud cover.

He said northern areas such as Scotland will be the most likely to see -3C.

But he said essentially anywhere away from the south will be a “chilly night”.
