This is the sickening moment a clubber was punched so hard he was left in a coma.

Andrew Mason suffered a fractured skull and was in a coma for 10 days when he was knocked unconscious in what police described as an unprovoked attack at Fever nightclub in Barnstaple, Devon.

CCTV footage shows his attacker Maxwell Banbury getting off his chair before marching up to deliver the brutal blow to Mr Mason's head.

Afterwards he casually finishes his drink before leaving as concerned clubbers check on the victim.

Banbury, 19, of Bideford, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and was jailed for 16 months, which was suspended for two years. He must also carry out 200 hours' community service and pay £1,000 compensation.

DC Phil Lawes, from Devon and Cornwall Police, told the North Devon Journal: "This was a totally unprovoked assault with no justification whatsoever.

"The severity of this assault shockingly illustrates how a single punch can cause very serious injuries – and the consequences of this attack could have been much worse.

"Devon and Cornwall Police will investigate these types of assaults robustly and bring the offenders to justice."

According to the Journal, Mr Mason still suffers from neurological damage seven months after the attack was carried out.
