A watchdog has dropped its investigation into the death of a pensioner knocked down by a police car.
The 72-year-old was hit by a marked car answering an emergency call in Chingford, east London, on Saturday.
But the Independent Police Complaints Commission said it was satisfied the vehicle was sounding its siren and flashing its lights.
A spokesman added: "The incident was referred to the IPCC yesterday afternoon and a senior investigator went to the scene. He has carried out an independent assessment of the case, which included examining information from the in-car data recorder and independent witness statements.
"The IPCC is satisfied that the police car had its lights and sirens activated and was travelling at an acceptable speed for a police car responding to an emergency. A decision has therefore been taken that the force will continue the investigation without further IPCC involvement."
The elderly man was pronounced dead at the Royal London Hospital.
A Met police spokesman said the collision involving a force Vauxhall Astra occurred at Ridgeway.
He added: "Police believe they know the identity of the deceased and have informed next of kin - however we await formal identification.
"A post-mortem examination will take place in due course."
