Former Met Police officer Wayne Couzens has pleaded not guilty to allegations he repeatedly flashed at female restaurant staff in the weeks before Sarah Everard was murdered.

Couzens, 49, is charged with four allegations of exposure between late January and February 27 last year, including one alleged incident on Valentine’s Day.

The former PC, who was married at the time, appeared at the Old Bailey via videolink on Tuesday for a hearing, entering not guilty pleas to all four charges.

It is said he “intentionally exposed his genitals intending someone would see them and be caused alarm or distress”.

Judge Mark Lucraft QC, the Recorder of London, adjourned the case for a trial on a date to be set, with the case expected to last up to five days.

The allegations of exposure span the six weeks before March 3 last year, when marketing executive Ms Everard, 33, was kidnapped from the streets of south London, raped, and then murdered.

Couzens, who is currently serving a whole life prison term, is currently being held at HMP Frankland.

Wearing prison-issue grey clothes and sporting a greying beard, Couzens confirmed his name and date of birth before repeating “not guilty” four times during the 15 minute hearing.

Couzens will appear in court again on November 1 for a pre-trial hearing.
