The single mother who was with Wayne Rooney when he was arrested on suspicion of drink driving has insisted: "I did nothing wrong”.

Laura Simpson, 29, appeared on ITV’s This Morning on Thursday, where she defended getting into a car with the married Everton striker - but did say Rooney does not deserve to be forgiven by wife Coleen.

The pair were pulled over by police after a night out in Cheshire, with Rooney arrested for drink driving in the early hours of Friday, September 1.

The 31-year-old footballer has since been charged with the offence.

He reportedly told friends he feared his marriage is over following the incident, having reportedly met Ms Simpson in a nearby bar during a night out in Cheshire.

The Everton striker then allegedly drove her VW Beetle whilst over the limit.

When asked if Coleen should forgive her husband on This Morning, Ms Simpson, a former lettings agent from Manchester, said: “I don't think he deserves to be. In my opinion I wouldn't do that to my partner.

She added: “I obviously knew who he was. We ended up in the same area [in the nightclub].

“I don't know who's writing all of this - I've been out with footballers, yeah. It's not something I do. We fell into talking to each other. I'm not just attracted to footballers.

“Basically, we just got a cab. It was a bit of a whirlwind really. There was no conversation. We just ended up in my car after getting out of the cab.”

Rooney’s wife Coleen, 31, who was on holiday in Majorca at the time with the couple’s three sons, is reported to have flown home after the arrest to confront her husband.

The Everton player also angered his manager Ronald Koeman, who told reporters in a press conference he was “disappointed” by the arrest of his star striker.

Reports have since emerged that Coleen has asked her husband to take a break from football to concentrate on repairing their marriage.

Ms Simpson added: “I feel like I've been thrown under the bus. Basically, I just asked her to give me a call.

“I told her everything I've told you. I told her nothing happened. I don't feel like I did anything wrong. It was on impulse, getting into the car ... going home.”
