Wimbledon win for Great Brit Murray

12 April 2012

British tennis ace Andy Murray has cruised into the fourth round of Wimbledon, cheered on by a host of Olympic champions.

The world number three beat Serbian Viktor Troicki in straight sets 6-2 6-3 6-4, taking just 1hr 36mins.

And seated in the Royal Box were 24 British Olympic champions with a combined total of 39 gold medals.

They included five time champion Sir Steve Redgrave, four time champion Sir Matthew Pinsent, four time gold medalist Sir Chris Hoy, triple gold medalist Ben Ainslie and double gold medal winner Dame Kelly Holmes.

The Olympians joined the crowd in getting to their feet as Murray secured victory.

After his win, the 22-year-old Scot said: "I was very happy with the first week. I got better each match."

He said he would watch the highlights of the game on television, but added: "I won't dwell on it too much because I need to get ready for the next match.

"I expect a lot of myself. If I play poorly I'll be very disappointed with myself. If I play well I'm going to be happy."

Murray, who is bidding to become the first British man to take the title since Fred Perry in 1936, was already looking towards the prospect of facing Swiss world number 18 Stanislas Wawrinka in the next round.

And the 24-year-old has something in common with those in the Royal Box - he won an Olympic gold at doubles with compatriot Roger Federer in Beijing.
