Woman left dangling upside down after coat caught on shop's security shutters

Anne Hughes, 72, joked she will ‘never hear the end of it’ after video of the comic moment went viral on TikTok

An elderly woman was left dangling several feet in the air by her coat after it became snagged on a shop security shutter.

CCTV captured the moment Anne Hughes, 72, was hoisted skywards by the shutter outside Best One convenience store in Tonteg, Wales, on Monday morning.

Ms Hughes, who has worked as a cleaner at the shop for seven years, had been leaning against the storefront as she waited for the shop to open.

Video captures her turn in surprise as she realised her coat was snagged.

She attempts to cling to a bin and to her purple wheelie shopping bag, but her legs are lifted high into the air.

Staff soon heard her shouts for help and lowered the shutter, while one worker rushed to her aid and lifted her free of the shutter.

Footage of the incident has gone viral, racking up more than 1.8 million views on TikTok.

Ms Hughes - who was reportedly shaken but not injured in the incident - has joked about what happened, telling the BBC: "I'll never hear the end of it. “I'll have to handle the fame, always have my make up on.

"I'll never go against those shutters again. Never. I've learned my lesson."

The Best One store, which posted the footage on TikTok, also made light of the situation, quipping: “Best one prices don’t go up, only the staff go up”.
