Police are hunting for two suspects after a woman suffered life-threatening head injuries in a suspected shooting at a home in Oxfordshire.

The woman, named by the Oxford Mail as 26-year-old Kerry Reeves, was injured at a house in Thornhill Walk, Abingdon, at about 8.15pm on November 3.

Paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service were called to reports of a woman with a severe head injury and she was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with injuries described as life-threatening.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: “The victim is currently being treated in hospital for her injuries.

“There are scene watches in place in Abingdon as officers pursue several lines of enquiry.”

An Abingdon resident, who did not want to be named, told the Oxford Mail they heard a bang which was initially thought to be a firework before they heard a “groan of pain”.

Investigating officers have carried out searches and forensic examinations at locations in and around Northcourt Road, near the scene of the incident.

Superintendent Jim O'Ryan, local policing area commander, said: "The major crime team is investigating the shooting of a young woman in Abingdon.

“Our investigations appear to indicate that this is not a random attack and the offender knew the victim. We are actively searching for two suspects.

"We would urge anyone with any information about this incident and who has not already contacted the police to call us on 101.

“Our thoughts are with the family of this young woman. This is a very unusual incident for the area and officers are working hard to apprehend those responsible.

"We believe, at this stage, that there is no threat to the wider community.

“We would like to thank the residents for their patience and tolerance as we carry out our investigation and would urge anyone with any concerns to speak to police officers."

No arrests have currently been made.

Anyone with information should call Thames Valley Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
