The Queen’s granddaughter has opened up about the heartbreak she and husband Mike Tindall have experienced after suffering two miscarriages in the last two years.
Zara Tindall, who has two daughters with the former England rugby captain, held back tears as she spoke to BBC about going through miscarriages, one in 2016 and another in July this year.
The Royal couple lost a baby just before Christmas 2016 after around four months of pregnancy and Zara said she suffered a second before she had daughter Lena in June.
Speaking to Sally Nugent on BBC Breakfast, Zara said: “I think that's the hardest thing in our situation, is that everyone knew.
“And very much when things like that happen, normally it's just your family and friends, but unfortunately everyone knew about it.
“Actually I had so many letters saying ‘I'm so sorry, we've been through the same thing’, which was incredible - and thank you to all those people."
The 37-year-old also opened up about how difficult it has been for her husband, who she said had been “incredible” in supporting her through the miscarriages.
“It's hard for the guys too," Zara added.
“It's very different for us because we're carrying the child, but for guys, I guess it's kind of that helpless feeling, which must be incredibly high and horrible for them.
“At the end of the day, they've still lost a child too. Being helpless is horrible, isn’t it? For anyone. It’s been a horrible road but actually now we’ve come out the end of it and hopefully, it makes you a stronger family.”
Zara, who is the daughter of Princess Anne, has two daughters with Mike, named Mia and Lena.
