More than 400,000 people watched US politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez livestream herself playing the popular video game Among Us on Twitch.

Ms Ocasio-Cortez began streaming as part of her campaign to get out the vote in the upcoming November US presidential election .

She was joined by Minnesota's Democratic congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

Among US is an online multiplayer game set in space.

Participants are split into crewmates and imposters, with the goal for crewmates being to identify the imposters.

Meanwhile, imposters attempt to kill off all the crewmates.

Twitch allows gamers to live stream themselves playing video games.

Ms Ocasio Cortez was selected as an imposter in the first round, which led to her livestream trending on social media.

Her stream peaked at just over 435,000 viewers, Business Insider reported, making it the sixth most watched in Twitch's history.
