Donald Trump has faced criticism after posting a video on his Truth Social network of Joe Biden being bound by his arms and legs and apparently kidnapped.

The graphic is painted on the back of a pick-up van of a supporter of Mr Trump and shows the US president hog-tied.

The video plays solemn music as two pick up vans drive along a motorway in Long Island, New York, both decked out in support for the Republican presidential nominee. The second van has a numberplate reading ‘Trump...’

Mr Trump, the 2016-20 president, is set to take on Mr Biden for the keys to the White House in November’s vote.

“LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK…” was all the message said and Mr Trump posted it on Friday evening.

Mr Trump launched Truth Social after being kicked off Twitter in the aftermath of the 2021 Capitol riots, which he faces charges of stirring up

Michael Tyler, the Biden campaign's communications director, said that in sharing the video - Mr Trump has doubled down on his rhetoric of “violence”.

Mr Tyler said: "Trump is regularly inciting political violence and it's time people take him seriously - just ask the Capitol police officers who were attacked protecting our democracy on 6 January."

Former US attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, Joyce Alene White Vance, added: “I know from experience how the Secret Service interacts with people who make threats against Potus, even ones they can’t carry out.

“This, from a former president, is totally out of bounds. It’s time to stop letting Trump break the rules. Long past time.”

The Trump camp has not bowed to pressure to take the post down.

Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said: "That picture was on the back of a pick-up truck that was travelling down the highway.

"Democrats and crazed lunatics have not only called for despicable violence against President Trump and his family, they are actually weaponising the justice system against him."
