Melania Trump says ‘always choose love over hatred’ in farewell Twitter video

Melania Trump has urged Americans to choose “peace over violence” in a farewell video.

In the message released on Twitter, she said that serving as America’s First Lady was the “greatest honour of my life”.

“I am humbled to have had the opportunity to represent a nation with such kind and generous people,” she said.

Towards the end of her six-minute speech, Mrs Trump said: “I ask every American to be an ambassador of Be Best. To focus on what unites us. To rise above what divides us. To always choose love over hatred, peace over violence, and others before yourself.

“When I came to the White House, I reflected on the responsibility I have always felt as a mother to encourage, give strength and teach values of kindness,” she added.

While calling for peace, Mrs Trump, 50, made no mention of last week’s chaos in Washington when pro-Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, causing the deaths of five people.

The video emerged last night as it was reported that Mrs Trump will not be giving the next First Lady, Jill Biden, a tour of the White House, breaking a 100-year-old White House tradition.
