1,300 sheep run loose in Spanish city after shepherd falls asleep

Sebastian Mann9 June 2016

This was the bizarre moment a 1,300-strong flock of sheep ran loose after their shepherd fell asleep.

The animals had to be herded up by police after they were allowed to run free through the streets of the north-eastern Spanish city of Huesca.

A local resident called the emergency services when the huge flock was spotted in the early hours of Tuesday.

In footage released by the Policia Local Huesca, officers can be seen trying to control the woolly throng as hundreds of cowbells chime in unison.

They were later reunited with their dozing shepherd after police found him dozing nearby.

He had apparently been tasked with looking after the sheep nearby until 7am when he was to be allowed to guide the animals through the city.

The flock was set for the uplands of the Pyrenees where the sheep will graze during the hot summer months.
