Amazon has quietly tweaked its shopping-app logo after some pointed out that the recent redesign resembled Adolf Hitler’s moustache.

The app icon, which was unveiled in January, featured Amazon’s smile-shaped arrow underneath what looked like a toothbrush-style moustache.

After social media users pointed out that the strip of blue tap shared a resemblance with Hitler’s moustache, Amazon changed the design to a folded blue tape.

One Twitter user said: “Amazon’s new app logo be lookin like they’re the THIRD most downloaded in the ‘Reich’ section.”

Another said their parents use Amazon nearly everyday. They added: “When they ask where Amazon’s gone, I’ll tell them to look for the cardboard Hitler.”

Others disagreed with the resemblance with one Twitter using saying: “[Hitler] was rarely seen smiling, his complexion was not that of a cardboard box nor did he have a blue moustache.”

Amazon said the change to the logo was the first update to its global icon in more than five years and that it followed recent visual and functional updates to the app, such as new bottom navigation and a new color scheme.

The technology giant told the Evening Standard in an emailed statement: “We designed the new icon to spark anticipation, excitement and joy when customers start their shopping journey on their phone, just as they do when they see our boxes on their doorstep.”

It said the app was introduced in select countries and changes were made based on customer feedback before it was rolled out worldwide.

It comes after Sky History decided to stop showing episodes of The Chop: Britain’s Next Top Woodworker after a contestant was accused of having “Nazi” tattoos.

Twitter users accused participant Darren of having a Nazi symbol on his face after the channel shared a promotional clip from the show online. The participant has denied his tattoos have any such meanings

The contestant, who said his nickname is The Woodman, has the number 88 inked on his cheek, which is reportedly white supremacist numerical code for Heil Hitler.
