A police search is on for Spanish athlete Blanca Fernandez Ochoa after she disappeared more than week ago.

A car belonging to the Winter Olympic medallist, 56, was found near Madrid, though there have been no sightings of her.

Her family said the last time they saw her was on August 23 and her daughter is "very worried", according to reports.

Police in Spain announced they had found her black Mercedes on Sunday.

They also thanked the public for support in the search thus far.

She was last seen in the district of Aravaca, where she lives.

Ms Fernandez won the bronze medal in the slalom at the 1992 Olympics.

She competed in four such competitions, between 1980 and 1992.
