A teenager has died after falling from a 400ft drop ride at a theme park in Orlando, Florida.

Authorities scrambled to the scene after the 14-year-old plummeted from the ride at ICON Park just after 11pm on Thursday.

According to reports, he is believed to have fallen from the Drop Tower, which stands at 430-feet and has been branded the world’s tallest drop ride.

The boy was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries, the Orange Country Sheriff’s Office said.

The victim has not yet been publicly identified.

The Free Fall ride can accommodate 30 riders at full capacity. It isn’t yet known how many people were on the ride on Thursday when the boy fell, or how the events unfolded.

The Orlando Free Fall ride opened on December 28 last year. The 430ft tall ride carries people 40 stories up into the Orlando sky, after a brief pause, riders then take a white-knuckle free fall at 75 mph.

ICON Park is also home to the Orlando Slingshot - the tallest slingshot ride in the world.
