A British man has been rescued following a six-day ordeal trapped inside a well in Bali, authorities have reported.

Jacob Roberts, 29, tripped and fell into the four-metre deep well while being chased by a wild dog through near Pecatu village in the Badung province.

The fall left Mr Roberts with a broken leg, and he was trapped down the near-empty reservoir unable to move.

The Briton was eventually rescued after a farmer heard his cries for help, AFP reported.

Local search-and-rescue chief, Gede Darmada, said: "Jacob's calls for help were heard by a local who was going to feed his cows."

Mr Darmada said Mr Roberts was lifted out of the well in a stretcher by three men, according to the local search and rescue agency, Basarnas Bali.

Mr Roberts told authorities he had been trying to evade a dog that chased him through the village.

South Kuta police chief Yusak Agustinus Sooai said: “He looked thin and injured."

Police took MR Roberts to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Pecatu village is near the popular southern Bali tourist hotspot of Nusa Dua.

Bali has been locked down for months due to Covid-19, but is now in a slow unlock.
