A British tourist who had been in Australia on a dream holiday for just one hour was killed in a horror crash today.

The English man died alongside a taxi driver when a speeding stolen 4-wheel drive, which had been pursued by police, slammed into them in Perth, Western Australia.

The stolen four-wheel-drive ploughed into the taxi just before 2am today (Friday) after police called off a high-speed chase because the new Toyota jeep was being driven erratically and weaving across the road.

The 4WD was being monitored by a police helicopter directly overhead. Debris was strewn over a large stretch of the road.

The names of the male taxi driver and his passenger who both died at the scene have not been released.

The 23-year-old driver has been charged with two counts of manslaughter. A bedside court hearing will be arranged when the man is fit enough to have the charges read to him.

Police officers in the air saw the 4WD slam into the taxi and the crash was filmed by police.
