Two carjackers dropped a 10-year-old boy off at school after realising he was in the back seat - even telling him to "have a good day".

Richard Rodriguez was waiting in the car outside his home in Chicago shortly before 6am on Tuesday as his mother collected his baby sister from inside.

But a teenage girl, joined by a young man, jumped in the front seat and sped off, leaving the boy terrified.

He told NBC News: “I went to open the car door for my mum and out of nowhere some girl came over and took me with her.

“I was scared but I didn’t want the girl to see me. I was afraid I was going to get hurt.

“She was driving crazy. Going at least 50 miles an hour.

He added: "They told me to get off, fast, fast from the car.

"When they saw I had a backpack they told me, 'Have a good day at school'."

Chicago Police say that Richard returned home "safe and unharmed".

The vehicle is yet to be recovered and police are investigating.
