Cover-up? Weather presenter speaks out after cardigan sexism row

A female weather forecaster is at the centre of a sexism storm after being handed a cardigan and told to cover-up live on air.

Liberte Chan, a meterologist with Los Angeles TV station KTLA was handed a grey cardigan by news anchor Chris Burrous saying “We’re getting a lot of emails” about her black cocktail dress being inappropriate for the morning bulletin.

Ms Chan joked “I look like a librarian now” after putting on the cardigan and going on to finish the forecast.

However the on-air intervention sparked an online backlash from those who said the incident was an example of sexism.

Ms Chan responded: “For the record, there is no controversy at KTLA. My bosses did not order me to put on the cardigan, it was a spontaneous moment.

"I truly love my job, I like my bosses and enjoy working with my coworkers. Since talking to my team, I want our viewers to know it was never our intention to offend anyone. We are friends on and off the air and if you watch our newscast, you know that.”
