Pug owners and their beloved four-legged friends descended on Berlin for a day filled with fun for the pint-sized animals.

The sixth meet up in the German capital yesterday attracted more than 200 of the tiny dogs from across Germany and beyond.

The highlight of the day for dogs and owners alike was the pug race in which the pets bounded around a track to make their way to the finish line and enjoy a well-earned treat.

Despite pugs not being known for their athletic ability, the breed has strong legs and ankles and each dog taking part in the race had their finishing time recorded.

Owners of the dogs with the fastest race times were also rewarded with a pug shaped trophy.

Pug owner Christina Hoffmann, told the Telegraph: "I have wanted a dog for a long time and I wanted someone to accompany me, that I could take everywhere and therefore the pug is just perfect, he comes everywhere with me, he makes people happy wherever he goes and he's a perfect dog for life in the city."

Other festivities at the international pug dog meeting included accessory shops and food stalls, complete with ice cream for dogs.
