Dolly Parton has revealed she frequently gets up at 3am as she claimed it is when she does some of her “best work”.

The country legend said even if she has a late night, she will often get up very early in the morning as she said it is a family trait.

In an interview with Insider to promote her new range of Southern desserts, the music star said: “I don’t need a whole lot of sleep. I go to bed pretty early, but even if I’ve been up late — it’s just kind of like a little clock inside of me that says ‘it’s 3 o’clock!’

“I’m like my daddy. He was always up early, even if he had to go to bed late.”

The Jolene singer said she credited not sunbathing as a young woman as the secret to looking well-rested, despite the early starts.

She told the publication: “I never got out in the sun. I don’t have a lot of the same problems that women my age do ‘cause I never baked myself in the sun. I would’ve if I’d been able to tan but I couldn’t, so now I’m glad!”

But when she’s not cooking, Parton said she and her husband love going to fast-food restaurants such as Taco Bell.

It’s not the first time the star has spoken about waking up at an early hour after previously telling Drag Race host RuPaul that she often has a “little power nap” in the day.

In an interview with him for Marie Claire in 2020, Parton said she can work on three to five hours sleep.
