Donald Trump supporters are dressing up their pets in a bizarre show of support for the US President.

Photos show dogs donning Trump-style wigs and wearing bandanas of the flag of the United States supposedly in the name of Conservatism.

Others sport “Make America Great Again” caps or are photographed stood outside the White House.

The pictures are being shared widely by a Twitter account called “Conservative Pets”.

A post pinned to the top of the Twitter states: “DM us your pet pics. No liberal pets please.”

One post, with a picture of an American bulldog named Tank, said: “This is Tank! He's loved Trump since 2011 when I got him and we thought he would challenge Obama then. He’s been on the Trump Train since the day he announced! Tank the American Bulldog loves him some America!”

Another, with a dog sat next to a sign saying “Trump, Make America Great Again”, said: “Rowdy is pumped to support President Trump in 2020!”

One image of a dog with some sort of blonde hair atop its head said: “Trump hair, don't care!”

Other photos show dogs sitting down when Trump is on television and says “sit down”, a dog running to be a “Repawblican” and other “patriotic pups”.

Some included phrases such as “my dog is a Republican” with their pictures.

One even pays tribute to a dead dog called Toby, with a post that said: "He is looking down on us and is proud of what President Trump is doing!"

The page has more than 21,000 followers and has posted 1,271 tweets at time of writing.

However, some people have met the posts with derision.

One person said: “For some reason all the dogs on this account look sad.”

Another, replying to the dog with the Trump sign, said: “He looks hella sad.”

One simply said: “None of the animals on this page look happy.”

On August 26, Mr Trump posted a Tweet about his approval ratings.

He wrote: “Over 90 per cent approval rating for your all time favorite (I hope) President within the Republican Party and 52 per cent.”

He then went on to criticise what he calls “the Fake News Media” for “trying endlessly to make me look as bad and evil as possible”.

However, the statistics he stated have been criticised, as it has been unclear where he got them.

Multiple reports have stated they do not seem to match up with recent polls and that the White House has not confirmed where he sourced the details he was referring to.
