An Egyptian passenger plane has been forced to make an emergency landing in Uzbekistan after receiving a bomb threat.

The passenger plane was en route from Cairo to Beijing when it was forced to divert, landing in the city of Urgench, close to the Turkmenistan border.

There were 118 passengers and 17 crew members on board at the time, all of whom disembarked the plane safely, the Uzbek company said.

The carrier did not specify the name of the Egyptian airline, although Russian news agencies have reported that it was an EgyptAir plane.

The plane has been identified on social media as EgyptAir flight MS955, an Airbus A330.

Security services in Uzbekistan are currently examining the aircraft.

The threat came less than a month after Egyptair flight MS804 from Paris to Cairo vanished from radar.

An investigation into the crash is still ongoing, with investigators looking into the possibility that a terrorist act brought the plane down.
