Four transgender women have been arrested after a young British tourist fell to his death in Thailand.

The man, thought to be a 28-year-old from Leeds, plunged from the fourth floor balcony of a block of flats on Tuesday night.

He was reportedly taken to hospital but later died from his injuries after being found in an alleyway near the Dophin House apartments in the coastal resort of Pattaya.

One of the women arrested told police the man had become involved in an argument with two of the other women over money owed for "sexual services", the Bangkok Post reported.

Colonel Anukul Preedayuth of Pattaya City Police, said: "There are witnesses who said he fell down on his own, but we are not convinced.

“We are looking for more witnesses and evidence. The matter is under investigation.”

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We are providing support to the family of a British national who died in Thailand on 15 December, and are also in contact with local authorities regarding the death.”

Pattaya is a beach resort, popular with expatriates and tourists, on the east coast of Thailand.

It has a population of about 100,000 but has a massive tourist presence which swells the size of the city.
