Golfers raise the white flag as snow hits Arizona

The world’s best golfers could barely believe their eyes after freak blizzards in Arizona left the Dove Mountain course for the Accenture Match Play Championship under a thick blanket of snow.

World number one Rory McIlroy branded the conditions “officially ridiculous” as the white-out forced play to be suspended. Less than four hours’ play was possible yesterday and 10 games, including those of top seeds McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Luke Donald, did not even tee off.

Ian Poulter, however, undeterred by the snow, tweeted: “What’s the problem? Let’s play.”
