Harry and Meghan ‘lined up to present Best Picture at the Oscars’

Harry and Meghan are being lined up to present the top award at the Oscars ceremony next week, according to reports.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could be set to announce the Best Picture award after organisers approached the couple late last year, The Sun reports.

However, it is not yet known whether the pair have agreed to attend the event or not.

It comes after Prince Harry pulled out of attending Prince Philip’s memorial service in London, which is due to take place on March 29.

The Oscars takes place two days before the memorial on Sunday, March 27 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Organisers had originally considered asking the pair to present the award for Best Actress.

However, the idea was scrapped after Kristen Stewart was nominated for her role in Spencer, a biopic about Princess Diana.

The couple signed a lucrative deal with Spotify to host and produce podcasts, estimated to be worth around 25 million US dollars (£18 million), in late 2020 but have only recorded one show.

In January, Neil Young reportedly offered Spotify an ultimatum to remove either his work or The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, which has been known to air vaccine-sceptical views.

When the singer later left the streaming platform, Joni Mitchell followed suit “in solidarity” with his decision.

At the time, the Sussexes’ charitable foundation said they had been expressing concerns but the couple were committed to continuing their work with the streaming platform.

A spokesperson for Archewell Audio said as a result of their meetings with Spotify, the couple are “excited” to announce they are continuing production of Meghan’s “groundbreaking” first podcast series.
