Hillary Clinton labels Donald Trump a 'corrupt human tornado' and 'threat' to the US

Hillary Clinton has called the US President a “corrupt human tornado” and a “threat” to the country as she said she does not believe he will be re-elected for a second term.

The former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate was interviewed on CBS in the wake of an impeachment inquiry being launched against Donald Trump.

When asked by host Jane Pauley whether she thought it would be harder for a woman to be elected president in 2020 Mrs Clinton said she “hoped not,” adding: "Because Donald Trump right now poses a direct threat, a clear and present danger to the institutions of our government, to the rule of law, to our standing in the world."

Speaking about the 2016 race between her and Mr Trump, Mrs Clinton said: "You know, Jane, it was like applying for a job and getting 66 million letters of recommendation and losing to a corrupt human tornado.”

Mrs Clinton also said she supported the impeachment inquiry adding that Mr Trump had “betrayed” the US.

It comes after the White House released a memo of a phonecall between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelesky and Mr Trump in which the US President repeatedly pushed for an investigation into his leading Democratic rival Joe Biden.

Mr Trump has denied any wrongdoing and has dismissed the impeachment proceedings as a "hoax" and "another witch-hunt".

At an appearance Thursday night in Washington, DC, Mrs Clinton said Mr Trump "has betrayed his oath of office to uphold the Constitution and protect and defend our country."

She continued: "But I think it is fair to say we have known who Donald Trump is for some time now. We knew he was a corrupt businessman who cheated people.

"We knew that his campaign invited foreign adversaries to tamper with our elections and now we know that in the course of his duties as our President he's endangered us all by putting his personal and political interests ahead of the interests of the America people."

Mr Trump has not yet responded to the comments.
