These beautiful scenes were captured during the celebration of the festival of lights in the northern Indian city of Ayodhya.

The record-breaking display saw more than 300,000 oil lights glinting simultaneously on the banks of a river for the magnificent Diwali celebration.

301,152 lamps were set ablaze beside the Sarayu river. They glistened simultaneously for five minutes.

This broke the world record of around 190,000 previously set in a neighbouring region.

Guinness World Records confirmed the feat, CNN reported.
