Kylie Jenner's Instagram reign has ended after a picture of an egg became the site's most popular post with more than 25 million likes.

The post, created by an account called World Record Egg, smashed the 21-year-old reality star’s record of 18.1 million likes on Sunday.

By Monday morning, the record-breaking picture of an egg in front of a white background had nearly 25,400,000 likes.

Posting on January 4, the "Egg Gang" wrote: “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner! We got this."

Jenner took the title after she shared a picture of her newborn baby Stormi holding her thumb in February 2018, a post which has now been bombarded with comments about eggs.

Responding to the defeat in a new Instagram post, the reality star was filmed cracking an egg on the ground.

"Take that little egg," Jenner wrote.

On Sunday, the egg picture went from 14 million likes to 18 million in just under three hours and is the first non-human in the top 20 most popular Instagram posts.

Others in the top 20 include Beyoncé posing with newborn twins Rumi and Sir Carter and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson holding his third daughter Tiana.
